Masters at Work FAQs
I sometime hear Masters at Work refered to as a cohort. What’s a cohort?
A cohort is a group of students that begins a master’s degree program together in their local area and completes the program together. Individual students may enroll at a permanent TROY site at any term, but once a cohort starts, no new students can enroll with that cohort. Cohort members all work toward the same degree & concentration.
Where do classes meet?
Most or all cohort classes meet at a local venue. (Some meet in Waynesville, Camden County, or Waycross.) However, you can have one develop right in your neighborhood.
What degree programs are available?
Cohort degree programs are based on student interest in the local area. All cohort members work toward the same degree & same concentration. Prior to starting the cohort, TROY will work with members to determine what program is most beneficial for all. The four concentrations are: Foundations of Education, Instructional Technology, Psychology, and Criminal Justice.
How does the accelerated term program work?
Each term is 8 – 9 weeks long, with a combination of in-class and online meetings. Each class meets on weekdays or weekends during each term:
Term 1: Aug – Oct
Term 2: Oct – Dec
Term 3: Jan – Mar
Term 4: Mar – May
Term 5: May – July
How does a cohort get started?
At least 20 students are required to form a cohort. The first step is attending a local Information Session and submitting your admission application. Application requirements are as follows, although some programs have additional admission requirements:
completion of an admission application packet (on paper or online).
payment of $50.00 nonrefundable application processing fee;
submission of OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS FROM ALL PREVIOUSLY ATTENDED INSTITUTIONS
submission of OFFICIAL GRADUATE ADMISSION TEST SCORE (MAT, GMAT, or GRE); and
letter(s) of recommendation and any other requirements.
How much do classes cost?
The tuition rate for a cohort course is the same a regular graduate course: Current Tuition Rates. Federal Stafford Loans available for students who qualify. Visit www.troy.edu/financialaid for details.
